The 9th Chapter of the Salamanders Legion, nicknamed the "Hel-drakes", is known to have been active during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy. It consisted of several companies.[1a]
Known Actions
- 006.M31: Drop Site Massacre — The 9th Chapter was among the Salamanders units deployed at the southern end of the Ignis Sector, thereby falling under the command of Forge Lord Arik Xergoh. When the treachery of the Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, Night Lords, and Alpha Legion was revealed, the 9th Chapter organised a suicidal counter-attack which allowed a large part of Xergoh's force to break out of the initial encirclement. Only 200 Space Maries of the 9th Chapter survived the breakout and were able to follow Xergoh's retreat.[1a] It is unknown whether any of these survived the following clashes and were among the just 900 warriors under Xergoh's command who ultimately escaped into the wastes of Isstvan V.[1b]
