Abominations (Cursed Founding troops)
During the 21st "Cursed" Founding in M35 it's believed that the Magos Biologis charged with overseeing the Founding manipulated the gene-seed used to create the Chapters of the Founding,[1] leading to many of the Chapters created suffering from more or less stable mutations and ill fortunes.[2a][2b]
The battle-brothers suffering the worst extremes of the chapter's curse are often segregated from the main body of Space Marines. Known as Abominations, these battle-brothers may be physically mutated and driven beyond the point of insanity. In their madness Abominations give no consideration whatsoever for their own safety on the battlefield and are frequently fielded together in squads where, should they fall prey to their self-destructive curse, they will at least take some of their enemy with them. In the heat of battle the curse may manifest itself in a horrific display of savagery and violence as the Abominations undergoes an uncontrolled and potentially fatal mutation during combat, changing form and strangling all those nearby, friend and foe, with rapidly mutating protoplasmic appendages.[2d] Those troops are not used by the Chapters when fighting alongside imperial allies.[2c]
