Acronis was a member of the Raven Guard Legion and the commander of the Ad Temperesta. He took part in the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy.[1a]

History

He was born on Shale Gamma and was forced to survive on his own within its dangerous Rust Spoils. This harsh existence continued, until Acronis was recruited by the Raven Guard and for the first time in his life, he was no longer alone. There were now others to help him and lead Acronis into the future the Imperium was creating. His experiences in the Rust Spoils, though, left an impression on Acronis and taught him that survival, watchfulness and lethality, were one and the same. It also caused Acronis to seek out solitude and this caused him to join the Raven Guard's recon units. There, he put the skills he honed on Shale Gamma, into use far behind enemy lines. Eventually, however, Acronis began commanding his Legion's reconnaissance ships and by the time of the Horus Heresy, he had command of the Ad Temperesta.[1a]

When the Raven Guard's Primarch, Corvus Corax, received word that Warmaster Horus had rebelled against the Imperium, he sought to confirm this was true. This led the Primarch to order the Ad Temperesta into the Isstvan System and the Symphalia Class Warp Runner found evidence that the Isstvan-III Atrocity had occurred. Its sensors then detected a residue trail of spaceship vox signals, which Acronis ordered the Ad Temperesta to follow. This led to the discovery, that Warmaster Horus and the Traitor Legions had built a base on Isstvan V.[1a] All of this information was then relayed to the Imperium and plans were made for its forces to attack the world and end Horus' rebellion. When the time came for the invasion to occur, the Ad Temperesta created a navigational beacon that led to Isstvan V. Its Navigator then sent this out, as the Warp Runner entered the Warp and left the System.[1b]

The beacon was used by the Imperium's forces to attack Isstvan V,[1b] but this was a trap set by the Warmaster and the Dropsite Massacre began. The ambush led to the near destruction of the Raven Guard, Iron Hands and Salamanders Legions and revealed that Horus' rebellion was much larger than the Imperium had thought. The Ad Temperesta was able to bear witness to all of this, as Acronis had ordered the Warp Runner to re-enter the Isstvan System and it reached the world just as the Massacre began. There was little he could do to aid the Imperium or the Raven Guard, however, as the Ad Temperesta was meant for stealth and not for battle. Instead, he had the Warp Runner's sensors take in everything, as he stood and watched the near death of his Legion.[1c] When the Massacre was over, Acronis sent everything the Ad Temperesta had learned to Terra and then continued to monitor the Traitor Legions. He also sought to search for Vox signals from any Imperial survivors. This led Acronis to remain in the System, until the Warp Runner was at risk of being discovered.[1d]
