Aighe Mortis is a Hive World of the Imperium.[1][2b]
Overview
A world starved of resources caught in an inexorable slide towards societal collapse[2b], Aighe Mortis still contributes regiments for the Astra Militarum.[1][2b]
History
Society on Aighe Mortis dates back to at least the days of the Horus Heresy.[2b]
In the days of the Age of Apostasy, Aighe Mortis was a thriving world with plentiful mineral resources. However, by the 41st millennium rampant and unchecked population growth and urban sprawl resulted in a world covered entirely in hive cities, its resources exhausted.[2b]
By early M41 the last of Aighe Mortis' wealthy families had fled the planet. Following a series of mass riots, the native miners took over the planet's mining concerns, the business' offworld owners not wanting to bother putting effort into reclaiming worthless holdings. Since then, the planet's society has existed in a state of anarchy ruled over by criminals.[2b]
Under this system, the planet's mines dug deeper, eventually uncovering new seams that have allowed the planet to stave off total extinction, for the time being.[2b]
Geography
Aighe Mortis is an extremely polluted world; the planet's atmosphere is borderline unbreathable. It used to possess oceans, but these were forcibly evaporated to make way for more manufactoria.[2b]
Society
Since the last of the noble families of Aighe Mortis fled the planet in the early 41st millennium, the planet has become gripped by anarchy. The planet is ruled by an overclass of criminals who do just enough for the Imperium to not suffer reprisal from its authorities.[2b]
Aighe Mortis' only outputs are in the form of small arms and men, both for the Astra Militarum and in the form of mercenary groups.[2b]
