Sometime after the birth of the Universe[1b] First appearance of "life" in The Galaxy. Parasitical Star vampires, the first self-aware entities, appear. They feed upon stars, eventually shortening their existence by billions of years, disregarding the forming planets.[1b]

  • The Old Ones appear. They build the Webway, and seed and foster life on many planets.[1b]
  • The Necrontyr appear. Evolving upon a planet orbiting a fierce star they are moulded with a short lifespan, a fact which haunts and pains them immensely.[1b]
Unknown[2a] The Necrontyr engage in bitter civil strife known as the Wars of Secession which is only ended when they focus their wrath on the Old Ones.[2a]
Unknown[1b] The Necrontyr eventually find the Old Ones and, filled with envy, wage war against them. The Necrontyr are eventually out-manoeuvred by the Old Ones and exiled to the edges of the Galaxy and into their own homeworld.[1b]
Unknown[1b][1e][13d] Twisted by a hatred towards all life and looking for weapons to use against the Old Ones, the Necrontyr create a body for the star vampire feeding upon their own sun, creating the Night Bringer. They create more bodies for other star vampires, turning several star vampires into the C'tan, called Yngir by the Eldar. The ever-hungry C'tan discover their ultimate delicacy: Souls. The C'tan known as the Deceiver tricks the Necrontyr with the promise of immortality and the C'tan turn all living Necrontyr into Necrons, feasting upon their souls.[1b][1e][1f]
Unknown[1c][1e][1g] The God War begins. The Old Ones are forced to retreat into besieged bastions. The C'tan and their servants, the Necrons, dominate the Galaxy. The "young races" are treated like cattle by their new terrifying masters, the C'tan. Life begins to grow more and more scarce in the galaxy. The C'tan, manipulated by the Deceiver, begin to slaughter and to consume each other. The desperate Old Ones influence many warlike young races like the Eldar, fostering their ability of using the energies of the Warp, the Achilles' heel of the C'tan.[1c][1e][1g]
ca. 65,000,000 BC (approx)[1d] The Pandora's box of Warp-magic opens. Several predatory Warp-entities appear, hunting and consuming psykers. Trying to defend their last remaining strongholds from destruction the Old Ones create the Krork (thought to be related to modern Orks) and the Jokaero, but it is simply too little, too late. First among the Warp-denizens, the Enslavers appear in a locust-like fashion.[1d]
ca. 65,000,000 BC (approx)[3] The C'tan known as The Deceiver creates controlled opposition against his kind in the form of Nephreth the Untouched, drawing out foes of the C'tan from the Necrontyr. Nephreth and the shard of The Deceiver inhabiting him are eventually imprisoned beneath the world of Serenade.[3]
ca. 65,000,000 BC (approx)[2] Szarekh, the Silent King of the Necrons, succeeds in leading his people in a revolt against the C'tan. The devastating conflict sees the C'tan enslaved. However weakened from their wars against both the Old Ones and C'tan and faced with a myriad of new threats such as the newly born Eldar, the Silent King decides to have the Necrons go into dormancy on Tomb Worlds. He puts himself into self-imposed exile into the void between galaxies.[2]
ca. 65,000,000 BC (approx) [4] With the Necrons dormant, the Eldar Empire rises to dominate the Galaxy.[4]
ca. 560,000 BC (approx) [63] The latest possible date Artifact XE3-36 was entombed on Armageddon/Ullanor Prime.[63]
ca. 460,000 BC (approx) [14] Qah, godhead of the Hrud, disappears, informing his worshipers that he has great works to attend to, and that he will return for the Raheed-Skoh when the tribes of Hrud come together for the last battle against the Yaam-khoh.[14]
Unknown[1a][1e][5] Many minor creations of the Old Ones survive and slowly evolve on their own, including "comical tree-beasts" who will slowly evolve into Humanity. Perhaps because of compassion, or simply reluctant to extinguish another life-form, the Eldar decline to wipe out these mon-keigh. Unknown to almost anyone, Humanity's future generations will produce Untouchables (at a rate of less than one in a billion) because of ancient DNA manipulations of the "Devoured Ones". All surviving and future races are imprinted with a fear of death because of the slaughters and powers of the Night Bringer, with the sole exception of the Orks.[1a][1e][5]
Unknown[6] The Perpetuals emerge as an evolutionary offshoot of Homo Sapien.[6]
ca. 60,000 BC [7] The Cabal builds a star port on Eolith (42 Hydra Tertius).[7]
ca. 29,000 - 25,000 BC[8] Humanity invents pottery, one of the first achievements in human technology. A fragment of one of the first clay pots comes into Malcador's possession.[8]
ca. 15,000 BC[9] Oll Persson, the oldest Perpetual at the time of the Horus Heresy, estimates this as the time of his birth (However, The city of Nineveh was not founded until 6,000 BC).[9]
9,000 BC[15] The Great Pyramids and Sphinx are built.[15]
approx. 8,000 BC[10a] Estimated year of the birth of the Emperor of Mankind[10a]
Unknown[11] The Emperor of Mankind claims he was born on the banks of the Sakarya River. The father of the Emperor is murdered by his own brother. The Emperor uses his psykic power to murder his uncle in revenge. The Emperor leaves for the "cradle of civilisation", determined to bring law and rule to Humanity.[11]
Unknown[12] The Emperor of Mankind alongside his Warmaster Oll Persson lead an army against a Warp-generating tower constructed by the Chaos Cult which in time will be known as the Cognitae. After securing the structure, the Emperor wishes it to be preserved for study. However Oll sees it as too dangerous and destroys the structure with Enuncia.[12]
approx. 3,300 BC[13] A gold ring depicting a bow-armed centaur is crafted in Persia the year before the Emperor's birth. It will eventually enter the Emperor's possession, who in turn gives it to Horus.[13]
8000 BC - 1400 AD[10b]
750 BC[15] Start of the Roman Empire[15]
