Andechs
General Andechs was a nobleman and an officer of the Astra Militarum from Armageddon. By the time of the Second War for Armageddon, he had command of all Armageddon Steel Legion forces on the planet.[1a]
Biography
In the opinion of Commissar Sebastian Yarrick, Andechs was a competent officer. However, Yarrick believed that Andechs's position owed more to his political abilities rather than his military record - in particular the fact that his family had connections with Overlord von Strab and his dynasty.[1a]
When Armageddon was invaded by an Ork horde, von Strab ordered Armageddon's military forces to assume a defensive deployment rather than taking the fight to the invading xenos.[1a] Despite the views of a number of Armageddon's defenders, many of whom believed that this defensive strategy was a mistake, Andechs was unwilling to countermand his superior.[1a][1b][1c]
Later in the war, Colonel Brenken, a number of other Steel Legion officers, and Canoness Setheno confronted Andechs in his headquarters and urged him to commit forces in support of the Legio Metalica[1c], which had been ordered to confront the Ork advance alone.[1b] Andechs refused, and so Brenken, acting with Yarrick's authority as a Commissar, executed Andechs and assumed command of the Steel Legions.[1c]
