Arachnospilas[2]

Arachnospilas are a strange four-legged insect colony species, that are a scourge for the few unlucky Imperial worlds they infest.[1]

Description

Their colonies live in massive underground hives, which are ringed by raised dirt the Arachnospila have tinged red with a pheromone they secrete. If their hives are disturbed, the insects will angrily swarm the invader, but they are noted for having feeble exoskeletons to protect themselves. However the Arachnospila's main weapon to defend their colony is to die - as this causes the insects to explode in a shower of acid. This is often enough to kill any human or creature that disturbs their nests and the Arachnospila's deaths will not hurt the colonies due to the fact the insects multiply at an alarming rate. This birth rate, however, has resulted in the species being quite difficult to exterminate from any worlds they have infested. There are also rumours of the existance of larger species of the Arachnospila, but there has been no confirmation of this yet.[1]

Trivia

The Arachnospila's miniatures were created by the Games Workshop employee Ty Finocchiaro. They were featured in an older version of Games Workshop's website.[1]
