The Astrarium Mysterios is an ancient Necron artifact.[1a]

The Mysterios was said to be first created by the followers of Phaeron Nephreth of the Ammunos Dynasty during the War in Heaven. Consisting of a Necrontyr-style pyramid-shaped puzzle box, the device when activated will lead to the world of Cephris in order to rediscover and then unlock the lost tomb of Nephreth.[1a] The puzzle box contains a remnant personality engram of its creator, the Cryptek Vishani. The device was tremendously valuable as if Nephreth's tomb could be discovered, Biotransference itself could be reversed.[1b] The dark truth however was that the Mysterios and entire legend of Nephreth was a lie fabricated by The Deceiver as a means to draw out the enemies of the C'tan and later as a ways of freeing itself from its prison on Serenade.[1c] Ultimately, unaware of its signifiance, Trazyn the Infinite took the device from the ruins of the Ammunos Dynasty's Tomb World and put it on display in Solemnace.[1a]

The Mysterios became central to the dispute between Trazyn and Orikan the Diviner. Orikan had learned of the Mysterios and, wishing to use Nephreth's DNA to unlock the key to transforming the Necrons into beings of pure energy, stole it from the Solemnace galleries. In the ensuing ten millennia of conflict the Mysterios changed handles multiple times until finally it was used to unlock the location of Serenade and the shard of The Deceiver within.[1c]
