Atreus (Chapter Ancient)
Atreus was a former Chapter Ancient of the Ultramarines Chapter.[3]
History
Before becoming a Chapter Ancient,[3] Atreus was a Tactical Marine in the Ultramarines 2nd Company and served in Sergeant Octavian's[1c] "Swords of Judgment" squadron. They were known for receiving a collective total of fifteen Marksman's Honour badges, for their uncanny precision with ranged weaponry.[2]
Battle for Macragge
During the First Tyrannic War's Battle for Macragge, Sergeant Octavian led the "Swords of Judgment," against the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Behemoth, to defend their Homeworld.[1b] As the battle raged, the Ultramarines received a distress call from the Imperial Navy Lieutenant Varras. The Tyranids had attacked his Imperial Lander, but Varras had survived a crash landing onto Macragge and requested help from the Chapter, as he carried one of their Gene-seed canisters. They would need to reach him quickly though, as the Lieutenant was fending off attacks by the Xenos.[1a] Octavian's squadron was charged with rescuing Varras and the Gene-seed canister,[1b] but it would be split in half to complete their mission.[1c] One half would be led by the Sergeant and would be dropped off near the Lieutenant,[1b] while the other half would act as reinforcements and would be led by Atreus.[1c] Octavian's squadron soon successfully rescued Varras[1d] and was then reunited with Atreus' squadron. The Lieutenant and the "Swords of Judgment" then fought their way clear of the Tyranids and were evacuated by the Cestus.[1e]
The squadron later aided the Ultramarines in defending part of a defensive cordon, that the Chapter had established against the Hive Fleet Behemoth. It was designed to prevent the Tyranids from gaining further access to Macragge's surface, but the Xenos sent a large force to attack the cordon.[1f] This led Octavian's section to come under increasing pressure and an Assault Marine squadron, led by Sergeant Furiae, was sent to aid the beleaguered "Swords of Judgment". The two squads then worked together to combat the Tyranids and they then launched a successful counteroffensive, that regained the ground Octavian had lost to Hive Fleet Behemoth.[1g]
Ichar IV Campaign
During the Second Tyrannic War's Ichar IV Campaign, Atreus was the Ultramarines' Chapter Ancient, while Octavian was its Chapter Champion.[3]
Sometime in late M41, though, Atreus was killed in battle and Octavian succeeded him as the Ultramarines' Chapter Ancient.[3]
