The Blood Hand, also known as the Butcher's Mark, was a gory World Eaters embellishment, that was used during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1b]

History

It was placed on their power armour's faceplates or chests[1a] and was awarded to World Eaters who demonstrated exemplary ferocity or violence in the name of their Legion. This could be through the sheer number of enemies they butchered in battle or through taking the head of a foe of superior rank in single combat. The Blood Hand was held in higher regard than almost any other honour or accolade borne by the World Eaters. Those who proudly bore the mark, would be drawn to each other and fought side by side in battle. Not for brotherhood or camaraderie, though, but instead for rivalry and enmity.[1b]
