The game opens with Ultramarines Sternguard Veteran Malum Caedo, the game’s main character, being the only survivor among his squad after his drop pod crash landed on the Forge World of Graia. He and his squad had been ordered by the Inquisition to retrieve the mysterious power source of the late Inquisitor Drogan. Experiments on the object had led to the creation of a rift in the Warp, allowing the Forces of Chaos, more specifically the Black Legion, to invade the surface of the planet. Caedo would then fight solo through the Forces of Chaos, which included Daemons, Cultists, and Chaos Space Marines in order to retrieve it. Once arriving to the vault in which it was stored, Caedo discovered it had been stolen by Black Legion Sorcerer Tumulus Samael.
Caedo would continue to make his way towards where the Sorcerer had staged himself, even fighting and slaying both a Lord of Change and a Great Unclean One. The latter being summoned by a detachment of Death Guard that had joined forces with Samael. In the end, the Chaos Sorcerer’s attempt to create a warp super weapon that would spread the rift among the entire sector would fail in a final showdown between the two. Samael would parish by the hand of Caedo and Drogan’s power source would fall into the grips of the Inquisition. However, Caedo’s job was not done, and he was ordered to slay the remaining forces of chaos that remained of the surface of Graia.[1]
