Bork'an Raid
The Bork'an Raid occurred in 939.M41, with the Imperium attempting to assassinate as many T'au Earth Caste academics as possible.[1]
Overview
On the T'au Sept of Bork'an, the Imperial 196th Iotan Gryphonnes Scion Regiment were deployed with but a single order from Lord Commissar Tilenus: target the planet's academic facilities and kill as many of the Earth Caste as possible. In the first few hours of the attack, the Scions' Valkyrie-borne assault met with great success. Earth Caste teachers and students alike were gunned down in their auditoriums and research facilities. However, the T'au launched a ferocious counterattack led by Battlesuits. The Scions' fire could not damage their foes' advanced Iridium armour.[1]
A well-executed tactical withdrawal saw the Gryphonnes come within a hundred yards of their extraction point when Commissar Tilenus ordered them back into the fight. They subsequently gave half their number to seek out any remaining Earth Caste stragglers. However, most had by this point been evacuated by Manta gunships. The Scions transmitted their findings to Tilenus, but their request for extraction was again denied. Over the next hour the Gryphonnes did as much damage to the Earth Caste facilities as they can before they were wiped out by the T'au battlesuits.[1]
