Caedomian Crusade
The Caedomian Crusade is a Crusade currently being waged by the Black Templars Chapter.[1]
Description
Commanded by Marshal Mauger, the Crusade makes fearful examples upon worlds where they are called to save. These include torturous executions, the isolation and incineration of devotionally lax districts, the abductions of whole townships to become Aspirants or Chapter Serfs, sometimes so many as to effectively condemn the remaining population to slow extinction. Mauger sees the Crusade as an instrument of mentorship in the Emperor's name. He similarly holds the examples set by his Crusade's Initiates to their Neophyte wards as amongst the most important marks of a warrior.[3]
As a result of this philosophy, the Crusade requires its Initiates to meet incredibly stringent standards before being permitted to train a Neophyte. These youths also serve as Neophytes far longer than in most crusades, and are expected to reach exceptional levels of skill and experience before they can be considered Initiates themselves. The result is a far greater proportion of Neophytes than many other Black Templars crusades. These Battle-Brothers are frequently given the most hazardous missions and deployed to the most unforgiving warzones, roles that, in most Crusades, are usually undertaken by Veterans. Those who fail in their duty but survive must endure prolonged rites of penance. Recently, the Crusade has ventured into the Chalnath Expanse, descending on Imperial worlds that have expressed doubts that the authority of Terra still endured in the region.[3]
The Crusade has three main components, with the first being the veterans of the Chapter. This is followed by Imperial Fists Greyshields from the Indomitus Crusade. Though these newcomers serve in the Crusade, they have not yet been fully inducted into the Black Templars' traditions – and therefore are not allowed to wear the Chapter's tabards, chains of devotion, or to train Neophytes. The third element are members of the Crusade who have undergone the Rubicon Primaris and are now training new recruits in the Chapter's traditional way in Primaris Crusader Squads.[1] Among those who are serving in the Caedomian Crusade is the Primaris Ancient Per Dammartin.[1][2]

- The Caedomian Crusade and Per Dammartin were created by Maxime Corbeil, one of Games Workshop's miniature designers. They were featured in one of the Warhammer Community web articles[1] and later in print in the 9th edition Black Templars codex supplement.[2]
