Caedus, known as the Red Marshal, is a powerful Daemon of Khorne.[1c]

History

4,000 years before the opening of the Great Rift, Caedus was defeated and captured on Fidem IV by an Imperial Fists Captain known as Demetrius. He was handed over to the joint control of the Ordo Malleus and Exorcists, who used him in exorcism rituals with Initiate ancestors of Demetrius such as Daggan Zaidu.[1a] In the present setting, Caedus was able to escape from Ordo Malleus control and possess a Broken One.[1b]

Traveling to the site of its earlier defeat at Fidem IV and harboring a grudge against the ancestors of Demetrius, Caedus allies with a group of Word Bearers under Dark Apostle Mordun, which devastate the world.[1d] While seemingly subdued by Mordun and forced into his Daemonic Axe, Caedus was simply biding its time and during a ritual to ascend the Dark Apostle to Daemonhood breaks free and slaughters all the Word Bearers before opening a Warp Portal to allow Bloodletters to pour through.[1e] In the subsequent final battle against Daggan Zaidu and his Hexbreakers, Caedus is forced into the body of Librarian Torrin Vey, who is bound and sent to the Purgatomb with the creature still inside his soul.[1f]
