Canis Major is a dwarf galaxy orbitting the Milky Way.^[1]

History

Canis Major was a first target of a project of colonisation of multiple orbiting galaxies lead by Navigator Magulax of House Mercator, in disregard of denouncement as a madman by Novators of many houses to the point of Paternova's personal intervention. By this point however Magulax had already gone beyond the galactic rim acompanied by an outcast Rogue Trader.^[1]

Common consensus holds that Magulax failed at his endevour of estabilishing a small empire of his own, an opinion motivated by a supposedly impassable intergalactic void and incredulity about an existence of polity this large only 25,000 lightyears from the Imperial seat on Terra. Only House Mercator still hunts for clues about the whereabouts of their former Novator, with only scarce and insubstantial evidence pointing towards a possible success and a passage through what he called "Monoceros Conduit".^[1]

Canis Major Overdensity is a real life astronomical object orbiting the Milky Way, however its status as a Dwarf galaxy is disputed.
