Caradoc (or Karadoc) was a Navigator Tutor, who taught Simon Belisarius.[1a]
Quotes
- "There is always a way out, through or under."[1a]
- "Keep the problems of tomorrow until tomorrow."[1a]
- "Kill monsters while they're little."[1a]
- "The Seven Great Errors of Navigation": "Never, ever assume that a voyage will be safe, boy. You can be approaching an entrance point you have used a thousand times, and a warp storm might arise. Or a temporal vortex might spring up. Or the daemons of the warp, for their own unguessable reasons, might suddenly decide that your ship looks like a tasty morsel. There's no way to tell what might happen, even on the most routine of trips. You must be constantly alert and aware. To be otherwise is to court destruction, for you and your ship."[1b]
- "Heaven, hell, the past, the future, Navigators have claimed to have seen them all, and the strange thing is that they probably did."[1c]
Trivia
Notes
- Early editions of Farseer (Novel) seem to have spelled his name as Karadoc in Chapters Five and Twelve, and Caradoc in Chapter Fourteen. All cases were standardised as Caradoc in the 2010 reprint.[1a][1b][1c]
- It is not stated whether Caradoc was a Navigator himself, and whether he was part of House Belisarius, or taught Navigators of more than one House.
