Cordus (Librarian)
"The power of the warp is forever fluctuating, but - as is so often the case - the strongest wills prevail."
Cordus is a veteran Primaris Librarian of the Ultramarines Chapter.[1b]
History
He joined the Ultramarines in mid-M41 and was among its forces that fought in the Ultramar Campaign. During that battle, the Chapter's Primarch, was reborn and after the Black Legion was purged from Macragge, Cordus joined Guilliman's Terran Crusade. The journeying to reach Terra was fraught with dangers, which ended on Luna with a battle against the Thousand Sons and their Daemon Primarch Magnus. Cordus was among those that survived to see the Imperials victorious, but the Battle of Luna left him with a particular hatred for followers of the Chaos God Tzeentch. Afterwards, he underwent the Rubicon Primaris and was reborn as a Primaris Librarian. Following this, Cordus made his name by giving exemplary service in multiple engagements against Tzeentch's forces. All the while, the Librarian engaged in his belief that the best way to bring dishonor upon his foes, was to defeat them in something they excelled at. One example of this was when Cordus took part in defending the Stygius Sector, where he used his psychic powers against a Sorcerer Lord. The duel between them finally ended, when the Librarian crushed the Sorcerer with debris.[1b]
He later joined an Indomitus Crusade Fleet and aided its forces in reclaiming many of the Imperium's lost worlds.[1a] However, the fleet was later ambushed by the Prophet's Black Legion warband and its Space Marine Commander gave the order for the fleet's warships to escape into the Warp. Despite doing so though, the Sorcerer Lord tracked them within the Warp and launched an attack on the Commander's Battle Barge flagship. Cordus was among the Imperials who fought to protect it, but as they did so, the Prophet began secretly summoning Daemons within the Battle Barge. They materialized throughout the flagship and once he was done, the Sorcerer Lord ordered his warband to withdraw. Shortly afterwards, the Daemons caused catastrophic damage to the Battle Barge and the Commander enacted an emergency exit from the Warp.[1a]
While the Indomitus Crusade Fleet survived doing so, it was left scattered within an Imperium Nihilus Sector.[1a] The Commander then began regrouping his forces and as he did so,[1c] he learned that that very same Sector was now being invaded by the Prophet. The Commander then led Cordus and the rest of his forces against the Sorcerer Lord's warband, in order to save the Sector's worlds.[1d] Thanks to the Commander's leadership, the fleet was able to foil[1f] the Prophet's plot to pull the Sector into the Warp,[1e] though the Sorcerer Lord escaped before the Imperials could kill him.[1f]
The vengeful Prophet then sought to free the imprisoned Daemon Prince Halphas, so that he could destroy the Indomitus Crusade Fleet and its Commander.[1h] The Sorcerer Lord then started a rebellion on the world[1g] Halphas was held captive on and began a Chaos ritual to destroy the seal[1h] that the Saint Coldura had placed upon the Daemon Prince.[1i] As he did so, the Prophet made contact with Halphas and the two came to an agreement. Their bargain was simple: if the Sorcerer Lord freed the Daemon Prince, then Halphas would kill the Commander and his forces, for the Prophet.[1h] The Commander meanwhile, had been in constant pursuit of the Sorcerer Lord and once his fleet arrived on the world, the Imperials put an end to the Prophet's rebellion.[1g] They then learned that the Sorcerer Lord was conducting a Chaos ritual, but the Prophet broke the seal, shortly after the Imperials found him. With that, Halphas materialized into Realspace and this created a Warp Storm around the world.[1h]
Now freed, Daemon Prince told the Sorcerer Lord that their bargain was complete and he ordered the Prophet to leave. However after a brief battle, the Commander quickly ordered his forces to retreat, when they were unable to destroy Halphas.[1h] But as the Imperials regrouped, the Seraphim Superior Erynica studied information they had claimed from the defeated rebellion's leadership. From it, she learned that Coldura had sealed Halphas away and with the aid of Cordus, she was able to locate the Saint's tomb on the world. Once Erynica informed the Commander of this, he gave Seraphim permission to search Coldura's tomb, for anything that could be used against the Daemon Prince.[1i] Erynica later found one of the Saint's relics,[1j] which the Imperials then used to defeat Halphas. After the Daemon Prince was dealt with, the Commander confronted the Prophet and once again defeated the Sorcerer Lord.[1k]
