The Corythos System is a star system of Imperial space[1a] located in the Segmentum Tempestus.[4]

History

Some time after the Second Founding, Nassir Amit, Chapter Master of the newly-created Flesh Tearers, led his Chapter in pursuit of a massive Ork vessel. The Flesh Tearers caught up with and destroyed the vessel in the Corythos System, then descended to the fourth planet in the system to eliminate any survivors.[1a]

They found that almost all of the fleeing Orks had been killed by the planet's native lifeforms; they discovered that the planet was a lost human world that had bred warriors strong enough to survive against the flora and fauna.[1c] Amit declared Right of Conquest, claiming the planet as the new homeworld of the Flesh Tearers and naming it Cretacia (from the ancient Baal sandscript meaning "Birth of Wrath").[1b][1d]

Amit would later depart Cretacia under unclear circumstances and disappear at the edge of the system, never to be seen again.[2a]

In late M41, a Space Hulk infested with Tyranid Genestealers materialized at the edge of the system, on a collision course with Cretacia.[2b] Chapter Master Gabriel Seth led his Honour Guard and Chief Librarian Corabael onto the hulk to locate the Genestealers' Broodlord, allowing a force of Death Company to teleport into the hulk from the Strike Cruiser Death's Cowl. The Death Company Marines butchered the Genestealers, neutralizing the threat.[2c] While on board, Seth found Amit's helmet in a Space Marine vessel embedded deep within the hulk.[2d]

After the formation of the Great Rift, the Corythos System was isolated from the rest of the Imperium for 20 years. Eventually, a Flesh Tearers expedition under the Chaplain Dumah arrived to reestablish contact.[3a] They found the System infested with both Genestealer Cults and Chaos forces, while Cretacia itself had been occupied by the Disciples of Rage Chaos Space Marine warband.[3b] After a difficult battle, Cretacia was reclaimed.[3c]

Known Planets

The Corythos System has seven planets.[1a]
