Data-Crystals are faceted blue crystal data storing devices, that are used by the Imperium and are the length of a Human index finger. They can be used to contain holo recordings, but this requires the Crystals to be placed within Hololithic Projectors for the recording to play.[1] Many other various forms of data can be downloaded onto a data crystal via insertion into a cogitator’s download port.[4]

Data-Crystals can also be used as a communication tool, containing messages deemed too important to be transmitted by vox-transmissions.[2]

Data Crystals on Necromunda

On Necromunda, data crystals are believed to originate from the Araneus Continuity during the Dark Age of Technology. They look like perfect, glass-like discs etched with intricate internal patterns that store vast amounts of mnemonic data. When loaded with information, they glow, with brightness corresponding to the stored data, signaling their immense value.[3]

Once, the Continuity’s entire history, culture, and technology were preserved in millions of data crystals housed in the crystal libraries of Hive Secundus, whose radiant glow illuminated the hive. Treasure hunters still scour Secundus for these priceless relics.[3]
