The Dawn of Fire is an Imperial Navy Retribution Class Battleship, that served as the flagship for Indomitus Crusade Fleet Primus and the personal flagship of Roboute Guilliman during the early Indomitus Crusade.[1a]
History
The Dawn of Fire was the sister ship of the Embrace of Fire, which was destroyed in a plasma drive mishap caused by Imperial saboteurs.[1b] As the Dawn of Fire served as Roboute Guilliman's command ship, the Lord Commander speculated that the saboteurs were sending him a symbolic message.[1a] While under Guilliman's overall control, operations of the vessel was left to Rear Admiral Dho Gan Mey.[2e]
The Dawn of Fire served as Guilliman's flagship throughout the early Indomitus Crusade, and was modified by the Primarch to accomodate his needs. It included a throneroom for the Primarch and expanded doorways to fit his hulking frame[2a] as well as a massive multi-level strategium where meetings with top Imperial commanders and the Council Exterra were held.[2c] It also included private quarters for the Eldar Farseer Illiyanne Natasé and his Dire Avengers bodyguards, who had been dispatched by Eldrad Ulthran to aid Guilliman.[2b]
During the Pariah Crusade's Battle of Mesmoch, the Dawn of Fire was disabled by a massive Necron fleet commanded by Hapthatra, who was under the control of the Silent King Szarekh. Szarekh was intent on capturing Guilliman, and had the vessel boarded by his forces. Amid the fighting, Rear Admiral Dho Gan Mey ordered the ship abandoned of its mortal crew. At the height of the battle Guilliman alongside Colquan and his Custodes and Cato Sicarius and his Victrix Guard were met by a portal opened up by Szarekh, who prepared to do battle. However the Eldar Farseer Illiyanne Natasé interfered, closing the protal and allowing the group to escape. In the aftermath, the Dawn of Fire was left to its destruction.[2f]
By the time of the Plague Wars Guilliman had made his flagship the returned Macragge's Honour.[3]
