Desolator Class Battleship.^[1a]

The Desolator Class Battleship is an ancient Imperial battleship, now used entirely by the Forces of Chaos.^[1a]

Overview

The Desolator was designed far back at the founding of the Imperium, based on technology now lost to the Adeptus Mechanicus.^[1a] Between M31 and M34, at least five Desolators turned against the Imperium and none now remain in service.^[1a] Today, they are all in the service of the Forces of Chaos. Several Desolators were used by the Chaos forces during the Gothic War,^[1b] which posed particular problems to the Imperial forces.^[2] These included the Eternity of Pain and the Torment.^[1a]

The Desolator Class Battleship is equipped with port and starboard lance batteries, a dorsal weapons battery, and prow torpedo tubes.^[1a]

Notable Desolator Class Battleships

• Dark Chorus — Word Bearers battleship. Deployed to the Magog System during the Achilus Crusade.^[7]
• Eternity of Pain — So renamed by its captain, responsible for destroying several Imperial ships, due to its higher-powered lances and long-range gun decks, since 453.M33.
• Misericorde — In the service of the Word Bearers, harassed the Blood Angels fleet over Cybele and Sabien.^[3][4]
• The Ninth Eye — Once the flagship of the Alpha Legion Daemon Prince Kernax Voldorius.^[5] Believed to have later fought Indomitus Crusade Fleet Quintus.^[6]
• Torment — Captured by renegade pirates in the Spartan War. Later responsible for the destruction of the orbital defences around Ghori IV prior to an Eldar invasion.^[1a]
