Hecate Class Heavy Cruiser

The Hecate Class Heavy Cruiser is a class of Cruiser used by the fleets of Chaos.^[1]

Overview

Developed in late M33 as a replacement for the Styx Class Heavy Cruiser, it was seen as more well-rounded for fleet engagements and solitary patrols. The ships were being built at Cypra Mundi when newer designs from Mars were deemed more suitable for the Imperial Navy. Most were decommissioned by the Imperium in late M35. By M36, a number of vessels had turned renegade, leading many to fear some inherent design flaw made these ships susceptible to corruption within the Warp. As a response, the Imperial Navy was quick to decommission whatever of the Cruisers remained. Since then, the class is frequently seen in the armadas of Chaos Space Marine fleets and in particular the Black Crusades of Abaddon the Despoiler.^[1]

Apart from a pair of launch bays that can unleash a few squadrons of attack craft such as Swiftdeath Fighters and Doomfire Bombers, the Hecate-class heavy cruiser is armed with dorsal lance turrets, as well as prow and broadside weapons batteries.^[1] Thus accoutred for war it poses a threat to any Imperial patrol, and is capable of fending off almost any escort squadrons and completing minor missions on its own.^[3]

Notable Vessels

• Blade of Fury — Captured early in the 13th Black Crusade. Has been seen alongside the Emperor's Children Battle Barge Wage of Sin^[1]
• Erebus — Captured early in the 13th Black Crusade.^[1]
• Admiral Foster — Renamed Reign of Terror upon turning renegade, part of the fleet assigned to Planet Killer.^[1]
• Lustful^[1]
