Example of a digi-weapon.[2]

Digital weapons, or digi-weapons, are miniaturised weapons, often concealed within jewellery, armour, or bionic implants.[1][8][9]

Though miniaturised, they are capable of replicating the punch of full-sized weapons such as laspistols, hellpistols, needle pistols, hand flamers, and Inferno pistols. Though a digital weapon can be fired while holding something else in one's hands, the weapon can only be fired once and reloading is extremely difficult.[1] Often, they are used in hand-to-hand combat scenarios, to give the combatant an unexpected edge or to exploit a gap in their enemy's guard.[8] Digital explosives can also take the form of a variety of concealed jewelry. They can be armed by applying precise pressure and thrown.[6]

The technology required to manufacture digi-weapons is beyond the capabilities of the Imperium.[2] Those of human manufacture are rare archeotech.[6] The vast majority of these rare and wondrous devices are crafted by the ape-like xenos known as Jokaero.[2][6] They are able to create the smallest and most compact digi-weapons. Accordingly, they are scarce and almost impossible to buy. These weapons would never see their way into general service and most Imperials will never see one in their lives. Their possession is normally restricted to the extremely wealthy or influential.[2] Digital weapons are most commonly used by the Holy Ordos and Throne agents,[4][6] notably by Inquisitors, as well as Rogue Traders.[4] Honoured Space Marines who have proven themselves of particular excellence might even be able to utilise digital weapons as special issue gear. Exmaples of Space Marine usage might involve having the digital weapon installed into a bionic implant or in the knuckles of a power armoured gauntlet.[8]

Variants

Digi-Multi Lasers are variants of a Digi-Laser, but instead of being concealed within a ring or jewelery, they are in the form of a pistol. When fired, the weapons unleash a devastating beam that combines the potency of plasma, melta and las energy together. Digi-multi lasers can only fire once, but this is usually all their users need.[3] Some of these digi-lasers have multiple functions besides weaponry. Some are also equipped with the ability to display hololiths, a flickering 3 dimensional light display.[4]
