Disruptor Zone[1b], also called a Disruption Zone,[1c] is the name of an effect that Necrons and Scarabs have upon Imperial technology when in proximity.[1b].

Within the heart of every Necron is a device that transmits and energy pulse capable of disabling most mechanisms and electrical components.[1b] Enemy technical devices, machines, and constructions which employ electrical or magnetic energy and liable to be affected by the mysterious power of the Necrons. It's effects can slow down or even stop vehicles and dreadnoughts, as well as cause weapons to malfunction. Ranged weapons may become inaccurate[1b] or simply cease to fire, their handlers throwing the weapons down perhaps in frustration or futility. [1a] Melee weapons are given no exception either, as power weapons, chainswords, and all other close quarters combat implements lose their potency, their users forced to rely upon their own strength rather. Even the bio-electric signals used by organic Tyranid weaponry is affected.[1b] Necron Scarabs also possess this effect, which plays well into their purpose of moving amongst the enemy to disrupt weapons, cluster around tanks, or dangerous enemy individuals and render them ineffective.[1c]

The effect of the Disruptor Zone around necrons and scarabs is relatively short ranged. However, there even larger similar devices capable of wiping out the data storage systems of entire planets.[1b] Indeed, it was this effect, combined with the Necrons often leaving few survivors, that caused the Inquisition in later M41 to realize why they had missed the existence of the Necrons during the Imperium's initial awareness of them. Many destroyed Imperial holdings lost to "unknown raiders" were likely this emerging threat.[1a]

"The attackers would appear to posses a kind of disabling device which is capable of rendering our weaponry dysfunctional and of obliterating such means we have of making record and observation. In this way I believe they have hiterhto escaped identification, and would not have been discovered now were it not for chance. [...] The defenders guns fire and three of the creatures fall, struck by lasers and bolters. Yet the rest come on resolute in the face of fire. As the mechanoids advance further, the defenders fire seems to slacken and at least one weapon can be seen to fail as its bearer casts it upon the ground. The scan ends as the attackers close [...]"

Trivia

The effects of the Disruption Zone are similar in description to the effect of an Electromagnetic pulse weapon, such as a T'au EMP Grenade or an Eldar Haywire grenade.
