The Doomed Ones are a formation of the Sons of Malice Chaos Space Marine warband.[1]
Overview
To many of the rank and file of the warband, the Doomed Ones were the elite holy warriors of the Sons of Malice. Revered as the chosen of Malice, the patron Chaos God of the Sons of Malice, they were never seen by other members of the warband as they were sent on secret missions to combat the Sons' foes throughout the galaxy. The only way to ascend to the ranks of the Doomed Ones was to succeed in the Challenge of the Labyrinth.[1]
This, however, was actually an elaborate deception: although the winners of the Challenge indeed became Doomed Ones, the Doomed Ones themselves were actually a circle of sacrificial victims offered to Malice. In M41, the eleventh and last winner of the Challenge (Invictus) was made a Doomed One shortly before all eleven were sacrificed to bless the warband's upcoming Crusade.[1]
