Dream Jewels,[1a] also known as Dream-Gems,[1b] are small uncut crystals that can materialize a desired object from their owners' dreams and materialize the items into Realspace.[1a] However this comes at a cost, as each Jewel is bound to a Slaanesh Daemon[1c] that comes closer to emerging at the owners' location, with every use of the crystal.[1b]

Description

These translucent pale blue gems, contain shadowy patches within them and are found on the Chaos corrupted worlds of the Eye of Terror. They have no monetary value as gems, as the Dream Jewels' true worth comes from what their user can have them materialize into Realspace.[1a] When a Jewel's owner puts it under a pillow at night, they will fall asleep with an unusual swiftness and then immediately begin dreaming. The owners either become aware of this at once, and begin thinking of what object they want, or they have a vivid dream, in the shape of a memory that makes them aware of what their desired object is. Either way, the owner starts to will their Dream Jewel to materialize the item they want. When they later awaken in the morning, the desired object will be located at the foot of their bed. It is not known what the limitations of the Dream Jewels are, as in one instance a casket filled with Space Marine toys appeared, while in another a single Memory-Portrait was drawn forth. These dream objects look and operate like the things they were dreamed off of and will remain in Realspace, even if the Dream Jewel is no longer in the possession of its user.[1b]

Slaanesh Cultists give the Dream Jewels to unsuspecting people, in an attempt to curry favour with their Daemonic masters.[1c] Using the crystal will then turn its owner into a promised gift for the Daemon bound to the Jewel. Every time the owner uses their crystal, this empowers the Slaanesh Daemon with the strength it needs to emerge into Realspace and kill them. However this process requires the owner to use their Jewel several times before this can occur. If this is done during Warp travel, though, the crystal will cause the owner's dream to merge with that nightmarish realm. Because using the Jewel forms a connection between the two, the Slaanesh Daemon bound to their crystal will be nearby as well. While the Daemon will then attack the Jewel's owner, in order to claim the prey that was promised to it, they can escape the Daemon by causing themselves to wake up from the Warp nightmare. However doing so causes the Daemon to be drawn by the Dream Jewel into Realspace and it will appear close to the awakening owner. Though because the crystal was not used enough times for it to be able to reach the owner's location by itself, the Daemon will not emerge fully formed. In this weakened state, the Daemon is still partly in the Warp and this makes it easier to destroy. If that occurs, the Dream Jewel bound to the Daemon will crumble into blue dust.[1b] Should it be destroyed, though, the Cultist's promise to the Daemon will become debt the crystal's owner owes to it instead.[1c]

Even without knowing the danger of using the Dream Jewels, there are those who sell the corrupted crystals in the Cold Trade. Doing so is not easy, however, as being discovered with objects from the Eye of Terror will bring the wrath of the Inquisition upon them. Though even this could be worth the risk to a Cold Trader, as there is a high demand for such exotic items amongst the Imperium's wealthiest citizens.[1b]
