Durun Atticus
Durun Atticus was a Captain of the Iron Hands 111th Clan-Company and commander of the Strike Cruiser Veritas Ferrum. He was badly burned when an energy weapon salvo had struck the bridge of the Veritas Ferrum. Most of his body was then replaced with augmetics, but for some unknown reason he kept his organic left eye.[1a]
The Veritas was part of the second wave of Iron Hands vessels to arrive at the void battle above Isstvan V during the Dropsite Massacre. En route to Isstvan, Atticus had jested to his crew that Ferrus Manus would put down Horus' rebellion so quickly he feared they would arrive too late to participate. Upon arriving, they found the battle was indeed nearly over, but in the traitor's favour. The Veritas managed to destroy the Alpha Legion cruiser Theta with a heavy bombardment and lured a Night Lords cruiser into the debris, but were heavily outnumbered and needed to retreat. Fragmentary reports of the death of Ferrus Manus reached the Veritas, but Atticus doubted their authenticity. As the Veritas prepared to depart, Sergeant Khi'dem of the Salamanders requested Atticus rescue his two Thunderhawks which had escaped the planet-side massacre. Reluctently, Atticus retrieved the survivors but suffered more damage, making the jump to the Warp with a compromised hull.[2]
