Escape from Laedrgeist
The Escape from Laedrgeist was a battle that occurred in 007.M31 during the Horus Heresy, when elements of the Word Bearers pursued and besieged an Iron Hands company on the resource world of Laedrgeist.[1]
History
Following the Dropsite Massacre, a shattered company of the Iron Hands legion managed to flee the Isstvan System but was pursued, in turn, by a fleet of Traitor navy and elements of the Word Bearers. Calling upon ancient alliances secured by the now-deceased Primarch Ferrus Manus, the Xth Legion found succour on the resource world of Laedrgeist.[1]
Their respite was short-lived, however, as their pursuers made planetfall shortly after they did. Following weeks of assaults on the planet's vault-fortresses, the walls were breached and the Taghmata and remaining Iron Hands faced inevitable defeat. Yet salvation came at the hands of another Shattered Legion. Flights of flame-wreathed strike craft broke through from the upper atmosphere amidst a torrent of orbital bombardment into the Traitor lines. Stitching fire through the mass of Traitor forces pushing through the breach, the blackened green hulls of the Salamanders aircraft descended into the heart of the battle.[1]
The advance of the Traitor forces was slowed when the planet's governor turned the billions-strong force of servitor labourers against the invaders, buying the senior Tech-Priests and Xth Legion time to board the Salamanders rescue craft and making their escape.[1]
