Excertus Imperialis
The Excertus Imperialis was a vast Imperial institution active during the Great Crusade, under which all of the Imperium's mortal military forces were organised.[1]
Description
Having a strength of many billions, the Excertus Imperialis included not only second line and support troops but also functionaries, labourers, void crew, logisticians, almoners, adepts and staff officers. It was divided into many divisions, each with a singular purpose, including the Solar Auxilia, the Imperial Army and the Imperial Militia.[1]
Besides personnel, the Excertus Imperialis also provided the weapons, equipment, war machines, transport and combat spaceships necessary to prosecute the Great Crusade.[1]
The Excertus imperialist, while in theory ultimately under the authority of the Officio Militaris situated on Terra, was in practice commanded by the Primarch-dominated War Council, having to obey all the principal agents of the Great Crusade, from Navigator Houses to Planetary Governors.[1]
