Faolchú the Great Falcon, also titled the Messenger,[7] is a figure in Eldar Mythology and consort of their God Kurnous.[1]

It is said it was Faolchú who bestowed the Eldar with the gift of flight.[5] The Great Hawk was the husband of Faolchú.[6] In the Eldar Lexicon Faolchú is conceptually synonymous with revenge.[1b] In Faolchú's long journeys as a messenger, it is said that even he needed to roost and take rest, at times.[7]

History

In some versions of the War in Heaven,[2a][2b] she was the one who retrieved the sword Anaris, which enabled the hero Eldanesh to continue his combat with Khaine.[2a] However, the weapon was not enough to save him and the Aeldari hero was slain by the enraged God.[2a]

After Eldanesh's death, Faolchú was disconsolate and gifted a single golden feather to the hero's heirs, so that his swiftness might aid them where the falcon's own had failed. This artefact became known as Faolchu's Wing[2c] and it is one of the many legacies that Faolchú has left to the Aeldari. Among the others are the species of hunting birds that bear her name[3], along with the Falcon Grav-tank[1] and the Faolchu's Blade formations used by the Harlequins.[4]
