Galen VI is a planet in the Maelstrom Zone that played an important role during the events of the Badab War.[1]

History

During the Badab War, the isolated Galen System was a prize that had been battled over for 6 years and it changed hands several times. Most significantly the system had been the site of a major battle between the Fire Hawks and a mixed assault force of Secessionists, leading heavy losses on both sides. The battle saw Galen II's life supporting domes laid waste, leading to mass refugee immigration to Galen VI.[1]

An invasion force composed of elements of the Sons of Medusa and forces of the Inquisition once more invaded the contested world, but this time met with success. Although the world was ultimately spared major damage, much of its population was forced into servitude as punishment for their transgressions, either through service in the penal legions, or deposited elsewhere in the Maelstrom zone to aid in rebuilding the shattered infrastructure of many other worlds that had felt the touch of the greater war.[1]

Geography

The planet's atmosphere is temperate, hot. The biosphere is inhospitable with a low ability to support unassisted human life. Local minor fauna and flora species only, high level of metallic toxins in environments make them unsuitable for use as food-base without reprocessing.[1]

Government

Formerly paramilitary oligarchy before the Badab War (semi-feudal base). During the war, various emplaced imperial/secessionist governors.[1]

Trade - Economy

Despite its inhospitable nature, the planet has been the home to human inhabitation for more than three millennia. Its native population has proved itself to be extremely hardy, self-sufficient and often fractious. Historically, control of the world has rested in the hands of a number of shifting fractions who have warred amongst themselves for control of the planet's limited industry (chemical extraction of various toxic metallic salts and chemical compounds from open cast mines and drift-flats for off-world export) and control of sources of clean food and water.[1]

The principal urban/industrial settlement, known as the Old City, has remained the planet's de facto capital owing to its concentrated technological capacity and access to significant subterranean water supply and processing facilities. Given Galen VI's history of conflict, much of the native population is judged to be combat effective.[1]

During the Badab War, the planet has a large scale refugee influx and the infrastructures were over-stretched.[1]
