Goremongers (Chaos Cult)

The Goremongers are a type of specialized Khornate Chaos Cultists.[1][2]

History

A Goremonger[2]

Goremongers are an offshoot of the more common Jakhal packs, having fought alongside the World Eaters and Bloodletter Daemons many times.[2] This experience has led to emulation of the Daemons of Khorne, which in turn has caused them to cut off their own legs and replaced their limbs with mechanical ones that are shaped like a Bloodletter's.[2] This is the first act new inductees into the Chaos Cult do and it aids the Goremongers into closer matching the Daemon's form. The Cult's members' bodies are also pumped with a constant flow of Combat Stimms and drops of their master's blood. However, despite this, the Goremongers still retain a modicum of cunning and level-headedness, which makes them among the most lucid and reliable of the Chaos God Khorne's troops.[1][2] Goremongers wield Autopistols, Blood Harpoons, and a wide variety of close combat weaponry such as Chainswords, Chain Axes, Great Chainaxes, Pickrippers, and Chainglaives.[3]

When they are unleashed, Goremonger Cults are led by a Blood Herald and are armed with chain weapons and ritual daggers.[1] Blood Heralds wear helms wrought in the image of a Bloodletter and wield swords which resemble their Hellblades. These champions seek to transform into a very Daemon themselves through the spilling of blood in Khorne's name, though none know if this is even possible.[2]

Unlike Jakhals, who are usually used as disposable cannon fodder by their Chaos Space Marine overlords, Goremongers perform a niche role and will range far ahead of their allies to act as scouts and skirmishers.[2]

Ranks

  • Blood Herald - Squad leaders who believe themselves held high in Khorne's favour. They don visages of Daemons as well as religious icons to demonstrate their faith.[3]
  • Impaler - Armed with harpoon-launching Fleshskewers, they target enemies attempting to flee to capture for use in later rituals.[3]
  • Skullclaimer - Generally the most capable fighters in close combat in a Goremongers pack, they wield oversized melee weapons often plucked from deceased foes.[3]
  • Stalker - Skilled trackers, they can hunt any foe once they have caught the scent of their blood.[3]
  • Inciter - Unusual in that they do not prefer melee combat, but instead utilize speed and agility in combination with Autopistols to gun down foes.[3]
  • Bloodtaker - Gatherers of blood, they use their ritual blades to open the veins of foes and gather the spilled vitage in their flasks. They then use this blood in their own Stimm concoctions to enhance the combat abilities of themselves and their allies.[3]
  • Aspirants - The most numerous members of Goremongers packs, wielding Chainglaives in combination with their speed and agility to great effect. They are also equipped with back-mounted injector tanks that constantly feed them blood-infused Stimms known as Sanguavitae, which speeds up their metabolism and makes them immune to pain.[3]
