Gorgoleon was a former Chapter Master of the Soul Drinkers Chapter, active in late M41.[1a]

Gorgoleon was widely renowned by the Soul Drinkers as the greatest fighter in the Chapter's recent history. He was also known for his advocacy for the use of despair in warfare - he believed that, once an enemy had been broken by a lack of hope, they would be rendered incapable of fighting.[1d]

History

When the actions of the Librarian Sarpedon aboard the Van Skorvold Star Fort led to the Soul Drinkers being declared Excommunicate Traitoris by the Ordo Hereticus, Sarpedon and the force under his command sought refuge from the Imperial battlefleet that was pursuing them in the Cerberian Field.[1b] Upon hearing the Inquisition's decree, Gorgoleon mustered the rest of the Chapter's assets to sanction Sarpedon and the renegade task force. Breaking through the Imperial blockade of the Cerberian Field, the Soul Drinkers fleet allowed the renegade elements to escape so that Gorgoleon could confront Sarpedon and allow him the chance to answer for his actions.[1c]

Bringing the renegade elements to a dark sector in the Halo Zone far to the galactic north-east, Gorgoleon questioned Sarpedon aboard the Chapter's flagship, the Battle Barge Glory. Unsatisfied by the Librarian's explanations, he challenged Sarpedon to an honour-duel, believing that no one outside the Chapter had the right to judge a Soul Drinker. Meeting him in the Cathedral of Dorn in the heart of the Glory, Gorgoleon initially held the upper hand during the fight. However, Sarpedon was able to call on his psychic abilities, enhanced by The Architect of Fate, and was gifted with arachnid-like limbs. Gorgoleon was then impaled through the chest by Sarpedon's new claw-like legs, before the Librarian picked him up and ripped him in two.[1d]

In the aftermath of Gorgoleon's death, Sarpedon would seize control of the Chapter.[1e]

Wargear

Gorgoleon wore a finely-crafted suit of Artificer Armour. His favoured weapon was a power fist inlaid with golden rivets, one for each notable enemy that he had slain with it.[1d]
