He became a member of the Traitor Legion, during the Long War against the Imperium and had a will to endure and survive. At first Hargoron would serve the Iron Warriors with nobility, but this eventually became only tatters of his past personality. He would try to remember to hold on to them, but in the end the Warp undid all of it by the time Hargoron led the Born of Iron. Instead his will to endure became a canker that ate at Hargoron and left a broken shell of base drives and cruelty. These later led him into the Gorgon's Shroud region of the Eye of Terror for loot and plunder, that would increase the Born of Iron's strength that it commanded. It would allow Hargoron to make changes to the Warband, so that it better served him. At that time, Hargoron thought the Born of Iron were vagabonds who were only loyal to power or opportunity. With the riches from the Gorgon's Shroud, however, the Chaos Lord could commission the creation of new Chaos Space Marines, that would be strictly loyal to him.[1]
Due to the Gorgon's Shroud being a cursed region of entropy, however, he would need the aid of the Warp Ghosts to reach it. The mysterious Warband's abilities to navigate the Eye of Terror, they would be able to safely lead the Born of Iron into and out of the Gorgon's Shroud. They would require, however, a large part of the goods Hargoron found as their payment, once they left the region. Though he was enraged at this, the Chaos Lord kept his composure and agreed, for those who angered the Warp Ghosts would not be able to survive traveling within the Eye of Terror. Even with their help, though, the journey within the Gorgon's Shroud took a heavy toll on the Born of Iron. Their armour and warships became rusted and one had to be abandoned after it began rapidly decaying. However as the Warband began leaving the region, the goods they had taken from the Gorgon's Shroud had more than paid for the losses they suffered. One of the items they recovered, though, was a Xenos' skeleton that was sought after by the Thousand Sons' Exiles Warband.[1]
Just as the Born of Iron were about to leave the Gorgon's Shroud, the Exiles ambushed them and attacked the bridge of Haragoron's flagship. This left it open to the void and the Chaos Lord tried to make his escape, intent on taking the most valuable items they recovered with him to another another warship in his fleet. However before he could do so, Hargoron was held still by the psychic might of the Exiles' Sorcerer Lord Ahriman, who then killed his bodyguards. The Sorcerer told the Chaos Lord, that they needed an item that the Born of Iron had recovered from the Gorgon's Shroud. A rageful Hargoron told Ahriman he would give them nothing, despite being helpless before the Sorcerer. Ahriman told Hargoron that he did not have to, in response, before ripping the Chaos Lord's memories apart with his powers. This allowed Ahriman to find the Xenos' location, but left Hargoron a dead crumpled heap on the ground.[1]
