Hervara is a Forge World in the Calixis Sector.[1] Under Severus I, was colonized as a Mining World and extensive mining operations, continue in pursuit of the world’s natural ore resources to this day. Adeptus Mechanicus during the Great Crusade had colonized the planet millennia earlier, but abandoned their work when the Crusade waned. These facilities were looted by Orks which left their spores. The remaining ruins jump-started the planet into quickly becoming a Forge World. Hervara has no moons or other larger satellites.[2]
Spinward Front War
As part of the war effort to secure the Periphery Sub-Sector from the myriad threats that loom over it is an ongoing struggle for the Imperial forces of the Spinward Front. Duke Severus XIII sent one of his best commanders—General Mikhail Augustus. Units of the Imperial Hervara Excavatory Warriors turned against their brethren creating an initial beachhead. Ork Oddboyz, under the tutelage and guidance of the cunning and brutally inventive Big Mek Noshdakka, has substantially altered the ongoing war effort with wings of Bommas.[2]
Location
Hervara is physically located along one of the Warp routes that lead between the heart of the Calixis Sector and the region which Severus claims as the Severan Dominate. Near the edge of the Periphery Sub-Sector, the world saw regular traffic from both the worlds of the frontier and those of the Sector.[2]
Environment
Roughly 60% of the planet is land. Shallow, saltwater oceans dominate the remainder. More than 95% of the land is divided among six major continents with endless ash dunes and scrubland wastes on the due to the constant cloud cover. Each is large enough to include a broad range of climates. Hervara’s orbit is ~456 days and its local days are ~22 Hours.[2]
Near the equator, temperature exceed 52 Celsius at midday. Consequently, almost all of the human population is isolated to a single continent in the southern hemisphere. That region’s seasonal changes maintain 18-30 Celsius at midday. Flooding and severe winds during the annual rainy season were the only significant meteorological dangers in this region when it was settled by the Imperium.[2]
Hervara’s native Ork population was originally evenly distributed. However, continued Imperial Navy presence kept the Xenos from ever becoming particularly active with orbital bombing quickly dispersed the forces. Imperial forces now believe that this led the Orks to move into the old mining tunnels.[2]
Native photosynthetic lichen, a symbiosis of plant and fungus, thrives under the toxic atmosphere, growing massive, fronded structures and has become the primary foodstuff for the human population. The flavour is unpleasant but it is both digestible and high in protein. The dark green coloration stains everything including teeth. This is a quick way of identifying as only recruits have “white teeth.”[2]
