Hive Mortis
Hive Mortis, also known as the Hive of the Dead,[2] is a Hive in the Eastern hemisphere of Necromunda, and a stronghold of House Escher.[1]
Overview
Following the devastating Aranthus plague, life ceased in Hive Mortis, leaving behind only corpses and empty domes. Scavenging clans encountered not only remains but also countless horrors unchecked by Imperial authorities. Over time, House Escher established dominance, with Death-maidens ruling vast areas and being supported by gangs of Wyld girls, known as the Dead Wyld, dressed in bone-white warpaint and ghoulish costumes.[1]
Despite the chaotic environment, House Escher enforces rules on behalf of the Imperial House, profiting from the hive’s salvage and corpses. The spire of Mortis remains off-limits, with the dead of House Aranthus sealed inside, protected by Escher to prevent looting, even as the true contents of the spire remain a mystery.[1]
House Delaque has a significant presence in the Hive of the Dead, focused on uncovering its secrets. They establish themselves in the hive, paying handsomely for expeditions into uncharted territories or the retrieval of ancient artifacts and records from before the Aranthus plague. Their efforts are particularly directed at breaching the ancient defenses of the Wall separating the hive city from the spire, aiming to access the stronghold of the extinct House Aranthus.[2]
