Imperial Dreadnought[2a]

Imperial Dreadnoughts or Imperial Battle Armours were warwalkers built for the Imperial Army and Space Marine Chapters[1] by the Adeptus Mechanicus.[2a] They were complex machines, between 3 and 4 metres high, proving often unreliable and requiring a lot of field repairs.[1]

Technical Information

They were built from ceramite mouldings, and reinforced with adamantium plates. Crystal batteries powered the machine, who was also equipped with a sensor package, a radius power shield, and a power field synchroniser.[2a]

Pilot

The pilot could be linked to the machine via mind-impulse technology.[2a]

However this method proved inefficient, and a new method called the "Spinal Link" was developed, consisting of merging the pilot to the machine's control system through surgery . he would then be suspended in amniotic fluids which would sustain him for the remainder of his life. This method would always end up with the pilot's awareness becoming merged with the machine, and being driven to insanity.[2a]

Variants

3 variants existed[2b], the main difference being between the type and number of weapons they carried.

  • The Contemptor Class Close Assault Dreadnought, codename Chuck, was equipped with 4 Boltguns,[2b]
