Imperialis Militia Grenadiers were a type of unit designation within the Imperial Army during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1]

Used within the Imperialis Militia Third Echelon troops, "Grenadier" was a term used by the Principia Belicosa to describe the most professional and well-equipped class of Militia soldier. Such troops often acted as retainers from the Commander's household and were higher status volunteers able to purchase their own equipment or professional security forces requisitioned due to the approach of conflict. On less developed worlds, such warriors may have been called huscarls or been the close kin to the planet's ruler, while amongst the more civilised cultures they might have been known as lifeguard and wear ornate livery.[1]

Grenadier Troops were most commonly equipped with Lasguns or Autoguns and carried Frag Grenades and Krak Grenades. Some may have even carried special weapons such as Heavy Stubbers, Sniper Rifles, Flamers, Grenade Launchers, Plasma Guns, and Meltaguns. On more primitive worlds, they may have been equipped with Muskets or Crossbows.[1]
