Biography
Early life
Ivixia Dannica was recruited from one of the Schola Progenia on Alena-Mora. She was the daughter of an Imperial Guard Colonel whose regiment was assigned to Inquisitor Grainne of the Ordo Hereticus during the Sargossa Schism to investigate the Cardinal of Alena-Mora. This investigation led to an armed quarantine for the Cardinal's followers and persecution of the Cardinal, who was punished for apostasy. Colonel Dannica’s regiment received feudal rights over the remains of the Cardinal's world.[1b]
Ivixia, known for her devout faith in the Emperor and the Ecclesiarchy, learned the importance of loyalty and the dangers of apostasy from her father. Upon hearing of the Cardinal's execution and his heretical actions, she developed a strong hatred for heresy. Although many expected her to join the Adepta Sororitas, her path soon diverged.[1b]
Inquisitor Covenant
On Ivixia's eighteenth birthday, Inquisitor Covenant, identified by his Inquisitorial Rosette, arrived at her family's estate. He revealed himself and explained that divination by his mystics and readings of the Emperor's Tarot indicated Ivixia would be a suitable recruit for his retinue. Covenant subjected Ivixia to numerous tests to assess her spiritual and physical suitability, which she passed easily. However, a hidden act of treachery from the time of Inquisitor Grainne's examination emerged. Some followers of the former ruler had evaded the initial purges by Colonel Dannica's regiment and continued their heretical practices in secret.[1b]
Death of Colonel Dannica
A network of daemon-worshipping cults, followers of the deposed Cardinal, had been secretly gaining strength, preparing to avenge their leader and reclaim their world. During Ivixia's tests, these cults made infernal pacts, performed blood sacrifices to the Ruinous Powers, and burned effigies of Colonel Dannica, blaming him for their master's death.[1b]
At a regimental ball attended by Colonel Dannica and his family, a daemon from the Warp appeared in a bloody blaze, massacring the guests. Inquisitor Covenant and Colonel Dannica confronted the daemon. Covenant, skilled in Daemonhunting, managed to hold it off, but the daemon killed the colonel with a warp-forged blade, reducing him to a charred skull. Ivixia's scream of anguish momentarily stunned the daemon, giving Covenant the opportunity to destroy it and banish it back to the Warp.[1b]
Vengance
After the massacre, Inquisitor Covenant, with Ivixia at his side, led purges against the cults, executing hundreds responsible for her father's death. Convinced of Ivixia's suitability as his acolyte, Covenant departed Alena-Mora with her six months later. Ivixia had her father's skull modified by Covenant's lexmechanics into a servo-skull autogun, allowing her father to continue serving the Emperor even after death.[1b]
Purging the Galaxy
Together, Covenant and Ivixia traveled the southern rim of the galaxy, eradicating blasphemous sects devoted to daemon worship. They, along with a dubious individual claiming to be a Duke, defeated the Decagogue of Panetha Varn's hedonistic priesthood and stopped the Daemon Prince Urgolath the Rancid from manifesting on Saneriax IV. Ivixia rapidly absorbed her master's teachings, adopting his puritanical fervor and intolerance for corruption. Eventually, with nothing more to learn from Covenant, she successfully petitioned the Conclaves of the Ordos Tempestus to become a full inquisitor.[1b]
The Banishing on Cimmaru Majoris
On Cimmaru Majoris, Ivixia led inducted Guardsmen against the idol-worshipping tribes of the western continent, declaring them Daemonicus Frateris. She personally destroyed their totem poles. The tribes resisted fiercely, retreating to the mountains and launching hit-and-run attacks. Eventually, they were driven to a sacred valley where they attempted to summon their greatest god, a misty creature capable of killing with a glance. During the battle, a bull-headed daemon of Slaanesh emerged from the tribe's champion, causing massive casualties among the Imperial troops.[1b]
Anticipating such a threat, Ivixia had called upon the Grey Knights. She activated a teleport homer, summoning a squad of Grey Knight Terminators from orbit. Together with Imperial Guardsmen, they destroyed the daemon and eradicated the remaining cultists. The lands were declared Purgatus and sown with blessed salt to prevent regrowth for a hundred years. Following this success, Ivixia returned to the galactic core, continuing her campaign against daemonic creatures on various worlds.[1b]
Obtaining Equipment
On Prenau, Ivixia defended the Basilica Dominastrus, saving the Sisters of the Order Hospitaller. She tracked down the attackers and recovered the shards of Saint Josmane's armour, a holy relic. In recognition, the Ecclesiarchy ordered fragments of the armour to be crafted into a holy weapon in her honour. Her bravery and purity earned her a blessed suit of armour on Ophelia IV for her efforts against daemonic and heretical threats. Ivixia's steadfast purpose and piety attracted many followers, such as the blank Jeremiah, all of whom she held to the same high standards she set for herself.[1b]
Encounter with Tyrus
Ivixia narrowly missed capturing an Inquisitor at Taberna Ostium and arrived too late to apprehend another in the ruins of Paganus Reach, where Witch Hunter Tyrus had taken her prey. Tyrus refused to hand over the heretic Kessel, insisting he would burn in purgation, though one blasphemer had escaped.[1b]
Ivixia, furious, attacked Tyrus's warband but was swiftly defeated. She then sought cooperation with Tyrus and learned the escaped Inquisitor Lichtenstein trafficked with daemons. Determined to pursue this rogue, Ivixia and her retinue left Karis Cephalon, focusing on their new target: Lichtenstein.[1b]
Retinue
- Jeremiah: A Blank Ivixia discovered on Karis Cephalon.[1b]
Wargear
- Anointed Power Halberd of St Josmane: Blessed by the Cardinal of Gathalamor, this holy weapon has sent scores of daemons screaming back to the depths of the Warp. Its blade was tempered in the tears of a thousand Sisters of the Order of the Ermine Chalice and contains fragments of the armour of Saint Josmane himself.[1b]
- Purity armour: Ivixia's personal armour that has been fitted with the autogun of Colonel Dannica's skull.[1b]
- Icon of the Just: Carried in a porta-shrine on Ivixia's back is a rendering of the blessed Saint Josmane, He Whom Death Could Not Claim. It is said that the holy saint touched this icon and the power of faith imbued in this magnificent work of religious art is such that it functions like a force field and provides her with remarkable protection from shooting attacks.[1b]
- Colonel Dannica's Skull: Ivixia's father's skull that was fitted with an autogun.[1b]
- Purity Seals: Inscribed into Ivixia’s armour are the teachings of the Liber Daemonicum, which contain words and symbols hateful to the daemonic.[1b]
