Jonah Aruken was a Moderati Primus of the Imperator Battle Titan Dies Irae during the Horus Heresy.[1a]

Biography

Somewhat nonchalant in his views, he enjoyed teasing his friend and fellow moderati Titus Cassar over the latter's straightedge character and adherence to the creed of the Lectitio Divinitatus.[1b] Following the deployment of the Dies Irae on Davin's moon[1c] and Horus Lupercal's brush with death, Aruken and other crew of the Titan went to Cassar, looking for spiritual comfort.[1d]

He nevertheless remained a sceptic, and his difficulty in reconciling those two sides led to frequent drinking.[2a] Aruken's one prevailing ambition was to eventually gain command of his own Titan, a dream he felt would be jeopardized if Princeps Turnet believed he was involved with the cult.[2a][2c] Still, he assisted Cassar and Kyril Sindermann when the latter sought to protect Euphrati Keeler from an assassination attempt by Maggard under Horus's orders.[2b]

During the Battle of Isstvan III, as Cassar prepared to kill Turnet, Aruken's ambition led him to kill his friend, ending the duel and allowing the Dies Irae to continue the mission given by the Warmaster — the killing of the Legions' loyalist elements.[2d]
