"Sacrifice is not a fleeting thing, the matter of a moment or a single event. It is the work of a lifetime of duty."
Kastor is a veteran Ultramarines Assault Terminator and he is also a member of the Chapter's Honour Guard.[1b]
History
His service with the Ultramarines' Honour Guard, has allowed Kastor to wield two relic master crafted lightning claws, which were created by the Blood Angels Chapter. The weapons were a gift to the Honour Guard, for their aid in defending the Blood Angels' Homeworld, Baal, during the 7th Black Crusade. Being a member of the Honour Guard also led Kastor to be stationed near the Eye of Terror, when the Chaos Space Hulk Herald of Grief appeared. The Terminator took part in the Ultramarines' subsequent boarding action against it, which ended with the Herald being destroyed. However the battle greatly impacted Kastor, who became less talkative afterwards and he rarely discusses what occurred on the Space Hulk.[1b]
Sometime later, the Terminator took part in the 13th Black Crusade and was among the Imperium's forces that defended Cadia. But despite their efforts, the Fortress World was destroyed by Abaddon the Despoiler and Kastor was among the Imperials who escaped aboard Archmagos Dominus Cawl's Ark Mechanicus, the Iron Revenant. Though it was shot down before the Ark could escape, the Revenant's passengers evacuated to Klaisus and fled into a Webway Portal located there. Their journey through it, led them to the Realm of Ultramar, which was also besieged by the Despoiler's forces. Kastor and the others then fought beside the Ultramarines and shortly afterwards, Cawl aided in the Chapter's Primarch, Guilliman, being reborn. Under Guilliman's command, the invaders were defeated and the Primarch then began the Terran Crusade and journeyed towards Terra. However Kastor did not leave with Guilliman, as the Terminator was among those Imperials who were ordered to defend Ultramar from any further threats.[1b]
This led Kastor took take part in the Plague Wars, when Ultramar was invaded by the Death Guard. Though the Ultramarines later defeated the Traitor Legion, the emergence of the Primaris Space Marines during the Wars left the Terminator with complex emotions. Though he acknowledges that his Chapter's Primaris are Ultramarines, Kastor also greatly values tradition. Because of this, he finds himself reluctant to fully embrace the Primaris as true Space Marines. But the Terminator's opinion may change, for those Ultramarines Primaris who earn several heroic deeds to their name.[1b]
Kastor is now serving in an Indomitus Crusade Fleet[1b] and he has aided it in reclaiming many of the Imperium's lost worlds. However, the Terminator's service was nearly ended when the fleet was ambushed by the Prophet's Black Legion warband. This left its Space Marine Commander with no choice but to order the fleet's warships to escape into the Warp. Despite doing so, however, the Sorcerer Lord tracked them within the Warp and launched an attack on the Commander's Battle Barge flagship. But as his forces fought the Imperials, the Prophet began secretly summoning Daemons within the Battle Barge. They materialised throughout the flagship and once he was done, the Sorcerer Lord ordered his warband to withdraw. Shortly afterwards, the Daemons caused catastrophic damage to the Battle Barge and the Commander enacted an emergency exit from the Warp.[1a]
While the Crusade Fleet survived doing so, it was left scattered within a sector of the Imperium Nihilus.[1a] The Commander then began regrouping his forces and as he did so,[1c] he learned that that very same sector was now being invaded by the Prophet. The Commander then led Kastor and the rest of his forces against the Sorcerer Lord's warband, in order to save the sector's worlds.[1d] Thanks to the Commander's leadership, the fleet was able to foil[1f] the Prophet's plot to pull the sector into the Warp,[1e] though the Sorcerer Lord escaped before the Imperials could kill him.[1f] The vengeful Prophet then sought to free the imprisoned Daemon Prince Halphas, so that he could destroy the fleet and its Commander.[1g] However, despite succeeding in doing so, the Imperials defeated the Daemon Prince. Afterwards, the Commander confronted the Prophet and once again defeated the Sorcerer Lord.[1h]
