Khemet (Triarch Praetorian)
Khemet is a Necron Triarch Praetorian.[1a]
History
A Triarch Praetorian in the service of the Silent King, Khemet was aiding Anrakyr the Traveler in defending the Tomb World of Lazar against the Silver Skulls Space Marines. However she failed in a way that infuriated Anrakyr, leaving to him imprisoning her mind within a Tesseract Labyrinth as punishment.[1b]
Khemet was later reawakened by the Cryptek Kamoteph the Crooked, who freed her mind from a Tesseract Labyrinth. She awoke with no memory of her past self, and only slowly regained her consciousness after consuming other Necrons abroad the vessel Senusret and absorbing their Necrodermis.[1a] Khemet learned from Kamoteph and his master Hekasun that she would be given a chance to redeem herself by winning a world for Anrakyr.[1b] After traveling through the Webway via a Dolmen Gate, they arrived at the Orymous System, which was held by the Imperium. Khemet's chance of redemption would be to lead the reconquest of the Tomb World of Qeretesh. With the world too heavily defended, Khemet proposed a shadow war of assassination and sabotage instead of outright conquest, utilizing the Deathmark Ahnuret to this end.[1c]
Khemet leads the shadow war on Qeretesh, first by sabotaging a train carrying waste to cause a biological catastrophe. She enslaved an Imperial official on the world, Pyrch, with Mindshackle Scarabs and uses them for further acts of sabotage across the world.[1d] Due to Ahnuret's maddening zeal for destroying all life, Khemet was forced to put them into stasis in order to avoid jeopardizing the mission. Using the Mindshackled Arbites officer Nestor, Khemet killed hundreds of thousands of Imperial soldiers in a spaceport explosion.[1e] Shortly after, Khemet learned that Hekasun was in fact not working for Anrakyr and her entire promise of redemption is a lie. The Necron Lord was too weak to take Qeretesh himself and recovered Khemet for his own ends in order to resurrect the Zathanor Dynasty.[1f] Though furious, Khemet agreed to still help Hekasun as part of a life debt for saving her.[1g]
Since the voidport disaster, the Imperials on Qeretesh knew that they are under Xenos attack and the shadow war was no longer viable. The Necrons launched a full-scale invasion and Hekasun was able to raise the flagship Hepherentes from the ocean floor. Quickly annihilating the Imperial fleet in orbit, the Necrons slowly advance across the world over several months as Ahnuret is unleashed to butcher any human they come across.[1h] The Necron activity attracted the attention of the Deathwatch, which arrived under Watch Captain Trantor. Trantor led a boarding attack on the Hepherentes, something Khemet allowed in order to draw in their most dangerous foe.[1i] In the subsequent battle against the Deathwatch, Khemet was able to kill Trantor alongside the vengeful Arbites Marshal Solome Sinos.[1j]
After the battle, Kamoteph used their victory to betray Hekasun and rule Qeretesh for himself. He unleashed his Canoptek Constructs to wipe out the Lord's court. However Khemet saw the betrayal as dishonourable, and still indebted to Hekasun saved him. In the battle against Kamoteph, Khemet was able to destroy a Tomb Stalker and kill the Cryptek. With her life-debt to Hekasun fulfilled, Khemet left his service and warned that she would return to judge him if he failed to hold Qeretesh.[1j]
