The Long March is an event in ancient Human history.[1]

History

Appearing in both Imperial and Kin records, the Long March refers to the stellar exodus from Terra during the Dark Age of Technology.[1a]

For the Kin, the Long March saw the very origin of their race as great mining fleets traveled to the Galactic Core in search of its fabulous wealth. Traveling aboard great Generation Ships and equipped with Votann Ancestor Cores, this long journey ended with the descendants settling the Core, establishing the first Holds, and eventually evolving into the Squats.[1a][2] The Kin are aware of their shared origin with Humanity, but are not one to share it. They have fought grueling wars against the Imperium and have no bond to Mankind.[1b]

There is also an event in pre-Imperial history dubbed the Long March. Here, Humans similarly set out from Terra in colonization ships on multi-decade journeys. When they arrived at their chosen worlds however, they found often lethal wildlife and plant-life alike, or devastating meteorological conditions. The founding materials for the colonists were the ship themselves, while they were able to flourish and expand thanks to STC machines. Among the creations of the STC during this time were the first Knight suits to defend against predators and hostile Xenos. Thus the Long March is a fundamental event in the history of Imperial Knights.[3]
