Marcher Keeps were a type of strategic level forward operating base used by Dark Angels during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1]

Overview

These rapidly erected fortresses were built as a facsimile of Aldurukh and stood ten storeys high, festooned with communications systems, scanning arrays and devastating legion weaponry. It dominated the skyline of an area it was built within, and was as much a testament to the Dark Angels’ intent as a military necessity.[1]

On the upper level of these keeps, legion commanders would hold their personal headquarters. Where the entire level was able to be styled to their liking in order to recreate their preferred command environment. Such things could even include bringing down objects like a personal command throne from a capital ship down from orbit in order for it to be placed within the space, or restructuring the whole floor to resemble the audience chamber of a Gloriana Class Battleship. From this lofty hall Officers could analyse every piece of incoming intelligence and plot their ground campaigns with the precision of a watchmaker. There was not a Land Speeder patrol, nor supply column nor Squad advance that could not be directed and micro-managed from within this chamber.[1]

Hololiths were also known to be used within these keeps to project detailed layouts of their surrounding environment for their master’s viewing.[1]
