"A heavily-forested moon that serves as a minor shrine world. Messelina Gloriana has few resources and low population, but is strategically important since the fall of nearby Komaris."[1a]
The world Messelina Gloriana has a large number of shrines to Saint Messelina, who is known across the Moebian Domain. Many born on this world might grow up as shrineguards, statue polishers, or military lackeys. The world has been a tumultuous area even before it received the name "Messelina Gloriana".[3a]
The nearby planet Komaris had been the Imperial bastion of the Moebian Fringe Regions since M41.[1a] The world filled this role ever since the Great Crusade and ended with it's fall in late M41 or early M42. Since then Messelina Gloriana has become the primary defensible world positioned between the Moebian core worlds and the Moebian Fringe.[2b]
In M42, Messelina Gloriana continues to attract and propagate many zealots eager to kill in the God Emperor's name and defend the Moebian Domain.[4] It was once said on Messelina Gloriana that there were a thousand ways the faithless could meet their end, and a billion souls ready to serve as executioner.[3c]
History
Prior to being named Messelina Gloriana, the world was the site for the Absolution Campaign. During which Moebian Regiments wore Moebian Nightshade pattern camouflage to better blend in with the toxic native flora.[3a]
The Moebian 100th, known as the Steepleguard, participated in a long ago campaign on Messelina Gloriana and utilized Crucis Nightshade Camo. "Few survived these battles, but those that did gained a new respect for the shadows."[3b]
Messelina Gloriana has been used as a rally point for zealous militia crusades aiding in various Fringe world campaigns. The 5th and 13th War on Infidus Brim, occurring after the fall of Komaris, would use Messelina Gloriana as a rally point for their zealous militias who would aid in the slaughter of heretics on Infidus Brim.[3c] Some of these zealot crusades are organised by the Wardenchain. Moebian chapels and shrines all have a Warden, who is inducted into the secrets of the brotherhood. These calls to war occasionally attract high-ranking members of the Ecclesiarchy to war, such as in the 5th War for Infidus Brim, occurring sometime after the fall of Komaris.[3d]
Flora
The world was once home to a deadly flora, the Vermillion Nightshade. This flora has long since been scoured from the world’s surface to make way for the many temples and pavilions of Saint Messelina.[3a]
