Mkani Kano was a Librarian and assistant Chapter Master of the Blood Angels during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1a]
Biography
After the Council of Nikea[1f], all Librarians were forbidden from using their psychic talents and were reintegrated into the wider body of the Legiones. As such, Kano served as the adjutant to Chapter Master Raldoron. After the final action of the Kayvas Initiative, he had to contend with Warden Yason Annellus, who suspected him of attempting to break the Edict.[1b] While Kano did feel the pull of his powers, he resisted the temptation until the needs of the Legion outweighed his own oath.[1e]
During the IX’s investigation of the Signus Cluster, Kano was subjected to visions of the Red Angel[1c], and eventually contacted other former members of the Librarius to ask for their opinions. It was upon meeting Ecanus that he learnt of his brethren's similar visions, and that Rune Priest Jonor Stiel expressed his own concerns about the star system's corruption.[1d]
During the Battle of Signus Prime, Kano resisted the unleashed Red Thirst and was thus able to perform a ritual along with his fellow psykers to reawaken their Primarch Sanguinius, rendered unconscious by the Bloodthirster Ka'Bandha[1g]. Under the surveillance of Sanguinary Guard Commander Azkaellon, seven Astartes thus enabled Kano to enter their gene-father's mind. There, he faced a psychic echo of Sanguinius, bound by threads of red and black, that savagely bit into his neck to drink his blood.[1h] Walking through the ruins of the Arx Angelicum, he witnessed possible futures: Horus Lupercal killing the Emperor aboard the Vengeful Spirit, Sanguinius slaying the Warmaster in the embattled Imperial Palace, the last remnants of the Blood Angels falling to Chaos on Signus Prime, Horus murdering Sanguinius aboard the Vengeful Spirit, Sanguinius being crowned emperor, Raldoron leading his primarch's funeral procession on Baal, and the coming of the Red Angel.[1i] Kano was then torn away from the mindscape, as Hengist murdered the last of the Librarians. Kano unleashed a bolt of energy, vaporizing the slaaneshi cultist, and wandered the corridors of the Red Tear until he stumbled upon Sanguinius, now awake and ready to avenge his sons' demise.[1j]
