Aun'o Mont'shi is a Vash'ya Sept Ethereal in the T'au Empire.^[1]

History

As part of its Third Sphere of Expansion,^[2] Mont'shi commanded the T'au Empire's invasion of the Imperial Sectors that were closest to the Damocles Gulf, in the wake of the Thirteenth Black Crusade. He was assisted in this by the Commander Eirl'O'Vash and was given ample support as the invasion was ordered by the Empire's Ethereals. However the Imperium would later launch the Dark Crusade's Mont'shi Campaign against the invading the Xenos.^[1] The Campaign was named after Mont'shi himself, as the Imperium had determined that the Ethereal was the leader of the T'au's invasion and was a major threat to it.^[3]

During the course of the Mont'shi Campaign, the Imperial world Draven III and the Vendrea System, were targeted by the T'au Empire, with Vendrea being of particular interest to the Ethereal Mont'shi. He sent scouts there to locate a structure he knew was important to the T'au's future and after it was found, Mont'shi ordered its location to be secured from the Imperium's hands at once. This responsibility fell to the Water Caste emissary Ori'priam, who had delivered the news of the structure's location to the Ethereal. Mont'shi also gave the Emissary orders to deliver to Commander Eirl'O'Vash, that would counter the Imperial reinforcements that were being sent to Draven III, which Ori'priam had also informed him of.^[3] Sometime later, the Mont'shi Campaign was defeated by the T'au Empire, though the Imperium would continue to send its forces there in order to stop the Xenos' advancement into its territory.^[1] Mont'shi would use the Campaign's failure and the subsequent war on Medusa V to mask his actions and also sent the T'au Empire's forces to the embattled Imperial world. Chief among them were Earth Caste scientists, who were charged with studying the Warp Storm that was approaching Medusa V. It was hoped that by doing so, the scientists would gain the knowlege they needed to create Warp capable craft for the T'au Empire.^[4]
