Nutrient Gruel
Nutrient Gruel is a foodstuff consumed in the Imperium.[3]
Overview
Nutrient gruel is consumed by various human forces. This includes the Astartes,[3] skitarii,[2] and Imperial Guard.[1] Some describe the nutrient gruel as little different from the Grox Slab bricks sometimes provided as Imperial Guard rations.[2] The masked helmets of Tempestus Scions allow for nutrient gruel and oxygen to be piped.[4]
Imperial Guard
Imperial Guard Nutrient Gruel Rations are official standard issued rations of the Astra Militarum Regiments and have a shelf life of a 160 standard years.[1]
Description
Their tins are designed for easy field consumption and the rations' ring pull lids are labeled with which 16 ready-to-eat flavors they contain. Each nutrient ration contains grey porridge-like gruel, in a semi-solidified state, which has all the nutritional requirements for a fighting member of the Astra Militarum. However Guardsmen are warned against making the nutrient gruel their sole source of sustenance for longer than five consecutive days. Doing so can lead them to suffering adverse effects such as headaches, stomach upset, birth defects and heart failure. While they are standard issue, the Catachan Jungle Fighters do not give them to their Guardsmen, preferring instead to have them live off the land.[1]
