Ogedei was one of Jaghatai Khan's generals during his youth on Chogoris.^[1a]

After Jaghatai Khan left with the Emperor to wage the Great Crusade, Ogedei was left behind on Chogoris to rule it in the Khagan's absence.^[1b] However Ogedei was no Jaghatai, and was unable to prevent the tribes of Chogoris from resuming their constant infighting.^[1c]

Later in life, Ogedei wrote a history of Jaghatai Khan dubbed The Great Khan of Quan Zhou. It is still used by Imperial scholars in the 41st Millennium.^[1a]
