In M41, Oleris III was an Agri World until it was ravaged by a plague of Chaos. Since then, planet has seen at least three Inquisitorial purges and is currently governed by the Ecclesiarchy [1a]
In M42, 200 years after the Siege of Vraks, Inquisitor Idelax of the Ordo Hereticus uncovered a Chaos Cult on Oleris III while investigating rumors of a witch coven operating on the planet. Upon realizing the scale of the cult, Idelax requested military intervention.[1a][1g][2]
With the arrival of the Imperial Guard on Oleris III, Colonel Petrakov served as the commander-in-chief of the army consisting of his regiment of Vostroyan Firstborn, Attilan Rough Riders led by Colonel Tegana, and the Kill Team Units of the Death Korps of Krieg's 401st Krieg Regiment, 'The Relentless Dead', led by Colonel Graven (Krieg).[1a][1g]. The Adepta Sororitas were also present, maintaining an honor guard on the planet led by Sister Superior Serafina to guard Saint Josefina's Grand Mausoleum. [1b].
After being betrayed by his Acolyte, Djallax, Inquisitor Idelax was rescued from the cultists by Colonel Graven and his kill team in the catacombs. During this rescue, it was confirmed that the cult was dedicated to the Plague God via the presence of banners bearing the Mark of Nurgle.[1c]. Idealax’s account determined that the cultists were also aided by Astral Spectres, Beastmen, and Psykers.[1c][1d] It was later discovered that the cult was led by a Tallyman of the Death Guard when Colonel Graven relayed an earlier encounter to the dying Inquisitor Idelax who they speculated was there to raise legions of the dead as an army of zombies.[1e]
Correctly postulating that the Tallyman was leading the coven out of Saint Josefina’s mausoleum, Colonel Graven led his forces there without the knowledge of Colonel Petrakov and against the wishes of Sister Superior Serafina.[1f][1g] Graven vanquished the Tallyman with the assistance of three Battle Sisters, including Serafina, in the crypt which broke the remainder of the cultists forces ending the Imperial Guard’s operation on Oleris III and thus disbanding the army and releasing its regiments for service in different regions of the galaxy.[1h][1i]
Ultimately, upon the suggestion of the late Inquisitor Idelax, the Ordo Hereticus scheduled a final purge of Oleris III once and for all just weeks from the end of ground operations.[1i]
